Five rooftop terraces the tourists haven't found yet

June 12, 2026 · 4 min read

Every city has its "best rooftop" list, and Montreal's is mostly the same five names, recycled every summer by people who visited once. These aren't those.

What they have in common: no cover charge before 8pm, a kitchen worth ordering from (not just a bar menu), and — this is the important part — nobody hovering to flip the table.

The best of the five is a converted loading dock above a print shop in Mile End, open only Thursday through Sunday, that seats maybe thirty people and has never once had a line. Ask for the corner table facing west. You'll understand by 7:45.

The rest of the list, along with exact addresses, hours, and what to order, is coming in the next update — this one's still being visited before it's finalized. That's the rule here: nothing goes on a list until it's been checked twice.
