A weekend in the Eastern Townships, without a car

April 2, 2026 · 7 min read

The Townships get treated as a driving trip by default, which quietly rules it out for a lot of people. It shouldn't. With the right route, it's entirely doable by bus and a short taxi at the other end — you just have to plan around the gaps instead of pretending they're not there.

The move is picking one base town rather than trying to hit three villages in two days. From there, everything worth doing is a short ride away: a vineyard that does tastings without a reservation, a lake worth the walk, and at least one meal that justifies the whole trip on its own.

Bring layers regardless of the forecast — the weather out there does not consult the app. Full route, bus times, and where to stay in the write-up.
